The Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute organizes a workshop entitled: (Drugs: Silent Dangers to the Mind and Body)

Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, and the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Lizan Medhat Mohammed, the Guidance Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Pharmacy Technologies, held a workshop entitled:

 

(Drugs: Silent Dangers to the Mind and Body)

 

The workshop was presented by Ms. Shen Ay Ahmed Mohammed and Dr. Bushra Nour El-Din Ghafour.

 

The workshop covered the definition of drugs, their types, and their health, psychological, and social effects, with a focus on how they spread among different segments of society, especially youth, and methods of early prevention. The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of addiction, how it begins, and how to deal with potential cases before they develop into full dependence.

 

Workshop Objectives:

1. To raise awareness of the dangers of drugs and their silent effects on the mind and body.

 

2. To familiarize participants with the types of drugs, how to identify them, and their effects. 3. Recognizing early signs of substance abuse to facilitate rapid intervention.

 

4. Enhancing personal protection skills among youth and adolescents.

 

5. Empowering families and communities to play an active role in guidance and support.

 

The workshop addressed several key themes, most notably:

 

Defining drugs and their types: natural, synthetic, and psychoactive.

 

1. Effects on the nervous system: How drugs alter brain chemistry and lead to psychological and physical dependence.

 

2. Health effects on the body: Impaired immunity, heart disease, respiratory disorders, liver and kidney damage.

 

3. Psychological effects: Anxiety, depression, hallucinations, memory impairment, difficulty making decisions.

 

4. Social and behavioral effects: Poor academic and professional performance, social isolation, violence, and legal problems.
