Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Ali Abbas Al-Attar, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Lizan Medhat Mohammed, Dean of the Technical Medical Institute, the Quality Assurance and University Performance Division organized a seminar titled “GLAAS Monitoring and Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Water and Sanitation)”.
The lecture was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Fadan Fikrat Ahmed (Lecturer at the College of Health and Medical Technology, Kirkuk).
The seminar aimed to:
1. Introduce the GLAAS (Global Assessment and Analysis of the Environment, Sanitation and Water) initiative and its role in supporting national policies.
2. Analyze progress towards achieving the sixth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 6), related to ensuring access to water and sanitation for all.
3. Discussing the challenges facing developing countries in the field of water and sanitation, particularly in terms of financing, management, and infrastructure.
4. Reviewing national and regional data and indicators to monitor and evaluate the efforts of governments and relevant institutions.
5. Raising awareness of the role of international cooperation and health and educational institutions in achieving water and sanitation goals.
6. Presenting examples and successful experiences from different countries in implementing effective water and sanitation policies.
The seminar included:
• A presentation on the GLAAS initiative, supervised by the World Health Organization (WHO), explaining the monitoring and analysis mechanisms used.
• An extensive discussion on progress in implementing Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), with a presentation of international and local statistics.
• An interactive question and answer session.
