Kirkuk Technical Medical Institute Organizes a Scientific Workshop Titled “Environmental and Economic Impacts of Parasitic Worms”

Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Lizan Madhat Muhammad, the Department of Community Health Technology organized a scientific workshop titled “Environmental and Economic Impacts of Parasitic Worms” in cooperation with the Quality Assurance and University Performance Division.

The workshop addressed the topic of parasitic worms as one of the most important causes of diseases common to humans and animals, and explained their main types. It focused on the close relationship between the environment and the spread of these parasites, particularly the role of water, soil, and climate. It also reviewed the environmental, health, and economic impacts, providing real-life examples from several countries to illustrate the magnitude of the problem.
The workshop aimed to clarify that the problem of parasitic worms is not just a health issue, but rather an interconnected environmental and economic issue. It sought to increase participants’ awareness of the ways these parasites are transmitted and the environmental factors that support their survival. The workshop concluded by emphasizing that parasitic worms represent a complex challenge that requires comprehensive preventive solutions. It emphasized the importance of improving sanitation systems, water treatment and monitoring, and health education for people and farmers. Recommendations:
Integrate efforts between the ministries of health, agriculture, and environment to reduce losses and achieve sustainable development. It concluded by emphasizing that prevention is a better long-term investment than recurring treatment costs.
