Hazardous waste management in laboratories

Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute Organizes a Scientific Seminar on Hazardous Waste Management in Laboratories

 

Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and the supervision of the Dean of Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute, Assistant Professor Dr. Lizan Medhat Mohammed, the Department of Community Health Technologies, in cooperation with the University’s Quality Assurance and Performance Division, organized a scientific seminar entitled “Hazardous Waste Management in Laboratories.”

 

The seminar was presented by Dr. Jalank Hamid Mahmoud, who discussed the concept of hazardous waste and its types, such as chemical, biological, sharp, and radioactive waste, in addition to its risks to health and the environment.

 

The seminar also highlighted proper waste management methods, starting from sorting and storage to safe transportation and disposal, emphasizing the importance of adhering to occupational safety procedures and using personal protective equipment.

 

The seminar concluded with several recommendations, most notably the implementation of waste management systems in laboratories, the provision of continuous training, and adherence to approved environmental and health standards.

 

This seminar comes within the framework of promoting environmental awareness and establishing a culture of occupational safety within educational institutions.
