A Scientific Workshop on Social and Psychological Factors and Their Role in Reducing Smoking at the Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute
Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and the supervision of the Dean of the Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute, Assistant Professor Dr. Lizan Medhat Mohammed, the Nursing Techniques Department at the Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute, in cooperation with the University Psychological Counseling Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Social and Psychological Factors and Their Role in Reducing Smoking.” The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members and students.

The workshop addressed several important topics, most notably correcting misconceptions related to smoking, managing psychological stress using scientific methods, enhancing individual self-efficacy, developing confident refusal skills to cope with peer pressure, and activating the family’s role in providing positive support. The workshop explained that smoking is not only a physical addiction, but is also linked to psychological and social factors, stressing that quitting begins with changing behavioral patterns and building psychological resilience and a personal identity capable of breaking free from this habit.
