Holding a scientific workshop on nanotechnology in sustainable water treatment

A Scientific Workshop on Nanotechnology in Sustainable Water Treatment

Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Lizan Medhat Mohammed, Dean of the Institute,

the Department of Community Health Technologies, in cooperation with the University’s Quality Assurance and Performance Division, held a scientific workshop entitled:

Nanotechnology for Sustainable Water Treatment. The workshop took place from January 11-12, 2026, and was presented by Ms. Golan Salah Qader.

The workshop highlighted nanotechnology as a modern and effective scientific solution in the field of water treatment. Nanomaterials possess advanced physical and chemical properties compared to traditional materials, most notably their high surface area, increased reactivity, and ability to remove multiple pollutants simultaneously.

The workshop also included a scientific comparison between nanomaterials and conventional materials in terms of treatment efficiency, speed of performance, and environmental sustainability, along with a detailed explanation of the photocatalysis mechanism and its role in breaking down pollutants at the molecular level and improving water quality.

The workshop aimed to raise scientific awareness of the importance of employing modern and sustainable technologies to address water pollution challenges, thereby contributing to supporting academic and research efforts to achieve sustainable environmental solutions that serve the community.
