The Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute Organizes a Humanitarian Field Visit to the Boys’ Orphanage
Under the supervision of the Dean of the Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute, Assistant Professor Dr. Lizan Medhat Mohammed, and based on the humanitarian role of nurses as “angels of mercy,” and in order to promote the values of social responsibility, students from the Nursing Techniques Department, under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Kalawish Nouri Taher, and with the participation of a select group of faculty members, organized a field visit to the boys’ orphanage in Kirkuk.
The visit aimed to provide psychological and health support to the children, as well as to educate them on the basics of personal hygiene, including general cleanliness, handwashing, and proper dental care. The visit also included conducting initial growth assessments, including measuring height and weight, in addition to monitoring the children’s overall health in coordination with the orphanage administration.
The visit resulted in several outcomes, most notably:
• Developing students’ communication skills in interacting with children.
• Strengthening the spirit of teamwork and volunteerism among the students and staff of the department. • Identifying some of the home’s health needs, in preparation for contributing to meeting them in the future.
