A seminar on the World Health Organization was held at the Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute.
Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and the supervision of the Dean of the Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute, Assistant Professor Dr. Lizan Medhat Mohammed, the Department of Community Health Technologies organized a seminar entitled “The World Health Organization.”
The seminar was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Laila Abdul Sattar Sadiq, who discussed the WHO as a specialized agency of the United Nations, established in 1948 and headquartered in Geneva. The WHO’s mission is to improve global public health through international cooperation.
The lecture addressed the organization’s key functions, including setting international health standards, issuing recommendations, monitoring disease outbreaks, and supporting countries in developing their health systems. It also reviewed the WHO’s most important programs in the areas of malaria control, immunization, HIV/AIDS prevention, and improving maternal and child health. The session aimed to raise awareness of the organization’s global role in reducing mortality and improving quality of life, and concluded by emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and rapid response to epidemics, while also noting the challenges that the organization may face, such as weak funding and political differences.
