Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute Organizes a Scientific Workshop on Biological Risk Management and Biosafety Enhancement
Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, and the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Lizan Medhat Mohammed, Dean of the Kirkuk Medical Technical Institute, the Community Health Technologies Department, in cooperation with the University’s Quality Assurance and Performance Division, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Biological Risk Management.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Jalank Hamid Mahmoud.
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to biological risks and their various sources, explain the principles of managing them in work environments and laboratories, promote a culture of biosafety and infection prevention, and develop participants’ skills in risk assessment and taking appropriate preventive measures.
The workshop covered several scientific topics, including the concept of biological risks and their types, methods of transmission of biological agents and their health effects, mechanisms for risk assessment and determining risk levels, biosafety procedures and personal protective equipment, management of accidents and biological emergencies, methods of safe disposal of biological waste, and the importance of adhering to biosafety legislation and regulations.
The workshop concluded with a set of important recommendations, most notably the continuation of specialized training programs in biosafety, strengthening adherence to the use of personal protective equipment, and regularly updating biological risk management plans. It also emphasized raising awareness of methods for preventing and responding to biological incidents and implementing best practices in biological waste management.
This workshop is part of the institute’s efforts to promote a culture of biosafety and enhance the knowledge and professional skills of its staff and students, thereby contributing to the protection of workers and the preservation of public health and the environment.
